ISMG’s Executive Roundtables focus on specific challenges being faced by information security executives in today’s cybersecurity landscape. Moderated by one of ISMG’s Executive Editors and a guest industry expert, Roundtables give cybersecurity professionals the opportunity to discuss threats and controls with a handful of market leaders in an informal setting, from which you will emerge with new ideas and solutions you can immediately put to work to improve your own organization’s defensive posture.
Topic
The 2019 SOC Odyssey – Evolving to Next Generation Effectiveness
It is generationally the most intense landscape for security ever, with cyberattacks increasing in sophistication, volume, and velocity. And the traditional security nerve centre of the enterprise – the SOC – is struggling to cope with this reality, fettered by its limited visibility, the inability to scale, and a high dependence on human intervention for repetitive, low-level actions.
Alert-fatigue is the industry norm, and persistent silos across the ever-increasing arsenal of security tools mean that detecting and responding effectively to critical incidents is tough. Without pervasive visibility, context, and analysis across all available sources of information, current SOCs are being overwhelmed, necessitating an evolution in thinking. An ideal next-generation SOC approach requires integrating analytics, threat hunting and intelligence functions with the traditional SOC functions; all with an emphasis on automation.
Looking for fresh perspectives on how to achieve this?
Join the conversation at our exclusive Executive Roundtable discussion, moderated by ISMG’s Varun Haran, as we attempt to contextualize the bleakness of today’s chaotic SOC environments, before casting an optimistic eye towards the future. Proposed talking points include:
- The threat landscape in 2019 and why SOCs must evolve
- Current pitfalls including log-based detection, siloed tools, and manual processes
- Visualizing the ideal next-gen SOC: analytics-based detection, integrated data, and automated response
Joining Varun to provide expert insight and case studies is Shailesh Rao, Senior VP at Palo Alto Networks.
