ISMG’s Virtual Roundtables focus on specific challenges being faced by information security executives in today’s cybersecurity landscape. Moderated by one of ISMG’s Executive Editors and a guest industry expert, Virtual Roundtables give cybersecurity professionals the opportunity to discuss threats and controls with a handful of market leaders in an informal and online setting, from which you will emerge with new ideas and solutions you can immediately put to work to improve your own organization’s defensive posture.
Topic
Who Says DDoS is Dead?
When it comes to protecting the network and both the customers and workforce that relies on it, is your organization ready for the possibility of a large-scale distributed denial-of-service attack?
In June, banks, major online retailers and other organizations experienced record-breaking DDoS attacks aimed at disrupting their infrastructure and bringing down their networks and applications. More recently there has been a flood of Ransomware DoS / Extortion attacks. Typically, banks are seeing attacks up to 200 Gbps of traffic with demand for up to 20 bitcoins to prevent future attacks.
These types of large-scale DDoS attacks and other security challenges are happening at a time when many employees have shifted to a largely work-from-home environment which would allow the attack to take the entire VPN infrastructure offline. At the same time, organizations of all sizes are looking to minimize their business and productivity disruptions.
The challenges todays CISOs and their teams are facing are numerous, they face questions like: Can older technologies support this new paradigm? Is a newer architecture needed? Will remote employees be able to access business-critical applications in a safe and secure manner? Which operational changes require an update to the risk register? Is it time to consolidate on fewer tools to reduce cost and complicity?
Please join ISMG’s Scott Ferguson for an exclusive Virtual Roundtable that will draw from the experiences of the attendees, offering thoughts on the challenges of business continuity in the new era of remote work and how security issues such as DDoS attacks still need to be addressed.
Discussion topics will include:
- Why are DDoS attacks becoming more powerful and how can security teams mitigate their impact when much of the workforce has shifted to work-from-home?
- Can older technologies, such as VPNs, keep up with demand and overcome the larger number of security challenges?
- How do you prevent larger scale DDoS from impacting operations?
Joining Scott to provide expert insight and case studies is Steve Winterfeld, Advisory CISO for Akamai Technologies.
